Featured on Season 3 of Coke Studio on MTV India, Barmer Boys represent the next generation of folk from India. Folk with attitude. 21st Century folk. Barmer Boys are a trio led by the vocal powerhouse of Mangey Khan and percussive antics of Rais Khan (morchang, bhapang, khartal, beat-boxing). Barely in their 30’s, and yet seasoned performers, they carry forward the centuries-old musical tradition of the Manganiyars and are leading examples of Rajasthani folk and Sufi music. Their music is a harmonic blend of distinct performance styles and personalities, and melds Sufi, qawwali and folk traditions of the Indian sub-continent.
