Padma Shri Lakha Khan is perhaps the greatest exponent of the 26/27-string sindhi sarangi. His music is truly secular and straddles both the classical and folk domains, with a vast songbook that incorporates Hindu bhajans (devotional songs), Sufi kalaams, popular Hindi tunes, and the ancient stories and oral histories of the western Indian sub-continent.
Live recording from from 19 March 2016 at Global Copenhagen (the venue now known as ALICE). Lakha Khan is accompanied by his son Dane Khan on the dholak. Featuring Kabir bhajans, Sufi kalaams by Bulleh Shah and Ghulam Farid, and traditional folk instrumental tracks.
