11 MAR 2022 (SAT) at SUNDER NURSERY in NEW DELHI, INDIA
Amarrass Records and Amarrass Society for Performing Arts are back with the next show of the season and the 3rd show of 2023 - Amarrass Nights @ Sunder Nursery, 11 Mar 2023.
We are thrilled to invite you to an evening of transportive music in the aptly named Sunder Nursery.
Featuring:
Ravana
{: a 'mirage' as a metaphor / allure } Producer, DJ and sampling agent based in New Delhi, Shravan a.k.a Ravana, re-emerging and re-inventing his moniker via an eclectic collage of Spoken Word/Drum N Bass/Jungle/Break-core/Dub. His new songs are raw, gritty and with thought provoking form that gradually invite the listener into a borderless experience. The perverse use of retroactive speeches, voices and old Bollywood songs, over a smokey canvas of sampled sounds and relentless hard quantized beats chuffed with dubby bass-lines and psychedelic washouts.
Radio Baghdad
The Trio performs pieces from the vast repertoire of Iraqi music - a journey back to the roots of the trio’s singer - Aviv Badri - who was exposed to this music early as a child through his family and eventually started studying the music and poetry of his Iraqi roots. Yaniv and Johanna were exposed to the world of Iraqi Maqam through their encounter with a generation of great Iraqi musicians who migrated to Israel in the 1950’s.
HimaliMou
'Pahaadi' or mountain folk music, from Haldwani in Uttarakhand, presented by members of the group Rehmat-e-Nusrat. Rarely heard outside the mountains, the band will showcase several different styles of music from the region, including Jhora, Chanchari, Chapeli, Nyoli and Chaiti (with the first three being dance forms with accompanying music...and yes, YOU CAN DANCE!).
Traditionally the music is performed to dance at important ceremonies, festivals and gatherings, with songs in Kumaoni, Garhwali, Nepali and Jaunfari. The sonorous melodies of the Bansuri (bamboo flute), rhythmic pulses of the Dholak, hand drums, claps and joyous shouts of exuberance from the singers infuse the performances with verve and raw energy.
Their debut performance was at Jaipur Literature Festival 2021.

VINYL REVIVAL IN INDIA
Amarrass establishes the first record cutting facility in India in the 21st Century!

We are thrilled to set up a new production facility in Gurgaon, India, where we have been busy over the Record Store Day 2017 weekend, cutting our first set of records! Analog remastered albums by Barmer Boys, Lakha Khan and the Palestinian-American band Painted Caves were released at a 'Vinyl Revival' launch party on the 28th of April at Lodi-The Garden Restaurant in Delhi, and we plan to follow with a series of live concert recordings of Barmer Boys with Vieux Farka Tourè and Bombino from the Amarrass Desert Music Festival in 2011/2012.
While the initial focus and production will be on the Amarrass catalogue, and artists on the label, we hope to work with other artists in India (and elsewhere) to cut dubplates, limited edition copies of LPs/EPs and singles. Each Amarrass record is individually hand-cut on precision-crafted machinery imported from Germany and assembled here in India. All the album artwork and jacket design is also done in-house at Amarrass. Vinyl finally enables us to present our archive of field recordings, live concerts and studio sessions in high fidelity - bringing the listener closer to the natural sound captured in the recordings sessions.
Barmer Boys (Kesariya Balm), Lakha Khan's 'At Home' sessions, and Painted Caves self-titled debut album are now available in LP format at our online store, and small batches will be available at online retailers and physical stores.

The Hindustan Times came over to visit our new facility. Read the story here, and catch a glimpse of the production process in the video below.
