The third edition of Amarrass Nights is back at Sunder Nursery next month and we have a special programme for the evening, showcasing humour and satire in folk poetry and music. Known by various names such as vyang, hasya kavita, mushaira, these once popular forms of folk storytelling will delight Delhi audiences, presented by acclaimed poets Popular Meeruthi and Pawan Dixit, and Jogi-folk poet-singer Jumme Khan back after his well received concert at Amarrass Nights@Qutab a couple of years ago. Wrapping up the evening with a special set featuring Ghalib, dub and an eclectic selection of audio ephemera on the subject of the evening, is recluse underground electronic producer Ravana. Also showcased at the event will be the folk instrument bhapang. Thank you to everyone who came out to the events in Jan/Feb - we have had an ecstatic response, and look forward to your continued presence and support.

The second edition of Amarrass Nights is back at Sunder Nursery next month with sindhi sarangi maestro Lakha Khan and the 'Global ambassadors of Rajasthani folk' Barmer Boys. Also showcased at the event will be the folk instrument morchang. Thank you to everyone who came out to the last event in January - we had an ecstatic response, with over 300 people attending the concerts with Ghewar & Firoze and qawwali singers Rehmat-e-Nusrat.

Amarrass Nights is back in 2020! After a long hiatus, we are thrilled to announce that we have a new, beautiful venue to host our monthly series of music, arts and culture events in the capital. A UNESCO World Heritage site, Sunder Nursery is a 16th century heritage park - Delhi's first arboretum - restored and renovated by the Archeological Society of India and the Aga Khan Foundation. Our first concert of the year is made even more special with the introduction of two new artist groups to the Amarrass Records roster: brothers Ghewar & Firoze and the next generation of qawwali singers Rehmat-e-Nusrat. 

 

Ghewar & Firoze, sons of the late Padma Shri Sakar Khan, are masters of the kamaicha and the dholak respectively. Accomplished musicians and members of the Grammy Artist Pt. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt's Desert Slide Project, the brothers have a long history of performing at some of the most important stages across the world, including at Jodhpur's RIFF, Fez Festival in Morocco and more. They also feature on the album 'At Home: Sakar Khan' (5 Stars, 'Top of the World' - Songlines).

​

Rehmat-e-Nusrat are a sextet of young musicians from Uttarakhand bringing a fresh new perspective to the timeless tradition of qawwali music. The group presents qawwalis by Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Sufiyana kalaams by the great poets Amir Khusrao, Meera Bai, Baba Bulleh Shah, Kabir bhajans, and original compositions.

Amarrass Nights goes to Jaipur! We are excited to bring our curated music mix to the Pink City this July with the inaugural event, jointly hosted by Jaipur Virasat Foundation. The June Dubfounded album launch party with a double bill: Ravana & Barmer Boys, at Auro was a big success and we look forward to turning on new heads soon, with the addition of Jumme Khan to the bill. The event is being held at the Rajasthan Rural Arts Programme (RRAP) Music Museum and Hub - a 'must-see'! As always, featuring an evening of eclectic music with uptempo traditional folk, organic techno, dubstep and minimal.

Amarrass Nights @ Auro hosts Dubfounded album launch party with a double bill: Ravana & Barmer Boys. As always, featuring an evening of eclectic music with uptempo traditional folk, organic techno, dubstep and minimal.

Come listen to the latest release from Amarrass Records (#15 on the label) - a genre-defying record by New Delhi electronic music producer Ravana, recomposing the poetry of Muslim Jogi folk poet Jumme Khan (from Alwar, Rajasthan).

Barmer Boys 'Global ambassadors of Rajasthani folk' present gypsy folk, Sufi and beatboxing. The only folk band from India to have performed at Roskilde Festival!

RAVANA {: a 'mirage' as a metaphor / allure } Producer, DJ and sampling agent based in New Delhi, Shravan a.k.a Ravana, re-emerging and re-inventing his moniker via an eclectic collage of Spoken Word/Drum N Bass/Jungle/Break-core/Dub. His new songs are raw, gritty and with thought provoking form that gradually invite the listener into a borderless experience.

Vinyl Alert!!! Limited edition copies of Dubfounded (Ravana & Jumme Khan, 12"+10") and Kesariya Balm (Barmer Boys, 180g LP) will be available at the show.
